Upper Lachlan Council Culvert Delay Killing Collector

Media Release | 29 November 2010

Upper Lachlan Council has failed to commence any works to replace the Collector Bridge it closed in June 2010 and partially demolished in July.

Council has claimed this is due to the wet weather which began in September. It now hopes to have a culvert to replace the Bridge in place by May 2011 depending on the weather.

Collector’s commercial future (dependent on the road via the Bridge off the Highway) and property values are being destroyed by this procrastination. Proof of this destruction is that the Bushranger Hotel are General Store are indefinitely closed, Wagtail Designs Gallery has also closed, The Daily Pie cafe now only operates three days a week and Collector Gallery is only open one day a week.

The problems for local businesses are, according to real estate agents, already impacting on the value of Collector properties.

Council and/or the State Government will need to quickly replace the bridge and invest in positive planning and infrastructure for the town if it is to recover from this fiasco.
