Upper Lachlan Shire Council's new culvert installations, and other disasters...
16 January 2011 | A possible preview of Collector Creek?...click on the images below to enlarge
| After the alarm was raised by locals, the Upper Lachlan Shire Council was reprimanded by Fisheries late last year for two new culverts they incorrectly installed near Taralga. The ULSC were ordered to fix the damage they had caused to the two once-bountiful creeks (at the same time, Council were also required to substantially change their first Collector Creek culvert plan to a more open, slightly higher model - but still nowhere near high enough for traffic to pass safely over the creek during the frequent floods). Judging by this photo (taken 7/01/2011), the "fix" has failed, with the Wowagin and Commisioners Creeks still badly damaged and blocked to fish, regardless of recent heavy rains. A preview of Collector Creek? It should be noted that the Wowagin and Commissioners Creek Culverts are higher and more expensive than Collector's low-budget version. | Palerang Council workers repairing a culvert on which the top fill has washed out. What's On In Collector...

*NEW!* Read the Environmental damage to Collector Creek native fish article here...
...We lost a wonderful old wooden bridge at Jamberoo several years ago
because our suggestion to retain it as a footbridge and put the new,
ugly but utilitarian bridge beside it was not accepted in time. Councils rightly spend large amounts on amenities for residents; surely retention of a beautiful old bridge gives residents and ratepayers and their children a wonderful spot to enjoy the waterways they cross by fishing, playing "Pooh sticks", or peacefully contemplating the running water...
